Are You Ready to Unleash the Warrior Within?
When the first Prince of Persia game rocked onto the scene it took the gaming world by storm with its fun and well rendered graphics, great storyline and exciting puzzles. Warrior Within is a bit darker version, but is that a bad thing? Check out the review to find out.
The Warrior Within puts a new twist on the Prince of Persia story and presents players with long campaigns that are a lot of fun to complete. The game looks just as good as the original, while presenting a very clearly defined darker edge that is very appealing. There is no doubt that this is a different game rather than a variation on a theme and plenty of new challenges await players.
One of the things that made the Sands of Time so endearing was the storybook atmosphere of the game. By embracing the dark side this feel has been lost. However, the combat now feels much more realistic and the campaigns are more satisfying than before.
This is a game about actions and consequences. The fallout from the Sands of Time that were released in the first game is that the prince is now being pursued by a monster called Dahaka. This mighty monster consumes everything in its path, creating a vortex wherever it goes. To banish this monster, the prince has to journey back into the past and kill the Empress of Time so that the Sands of Time will never be created.
This journey takes the prince to the Island of Time, where he must explore a ruined fortress. A whole host of challenges and enemies await in locations such as the mysterious caves, outdoor gardens and inside the castle itself. Exploring these locations and solving the puzzles that will lead to the goal is a lot of fun and new surprises await around every corner.
Along the way you will discover special rooms in the castle that allow you to move between the past and the present. These rooms take on a whole new look depending on the time period you are currently in, which adds an extra level of realism and adventure to the game. The game is also much longer than the original, and gamers will be able to spend many happy hours exploring, solving puzzles and engaging in combat.
Players who enjoyed the feature of being able to rewind time for a few seconds to correct mistakes will be pleased to discover that this feature is also present in Warrior Within. This means that players can simply hit rewind at certain points in the game rather than having to go back and play the stage all over again. The speed feature is also great for combat and escaping traps in the nick of time.
The movements of the characters are slick and smooth and watching them interact is a lot of fun. The game controls are also very easy to use, while the in-game map helps guide players to victory and sort out some of the confusion of having such as large area to play in.
All of the features that gamers loved about the original Prince of Persia game are still present. In many cases they have been enhanced this time around to offer a more complete game. The dark twist is sure to appeal to older players, although some of the comic charm of the original is no longer present.
